Bondage is our own Mind
These verses mentioned in Panchadasi, correctly define the bondage which is created by our own thinking and believing.
Panchadasi ( पंचदशी ) is a Sanskrit text on Advaita Vedanta written by Vidyaranya (विद्यारण्य), previously known as Madhavacharya (माधवाचार्य)
दूरदेमं गते पुत्रे जीवत्येवात्र तत्पिता ।
विप्रलंभकवाक्येन मृतं मत्वा प्ररोदिति ।।
A liar told a man whose son had gone to far-off country that the boy is dead, although he is still alive. The father believed him & was aggrieved.
मृते अपि तस्मिन्वार्तायामश्रुतायां न रोदिति ।
अतः सर्वस्य जीवस्य बन्धकृन्मानसं जगत् ।।
If on the other hand, his son is really died abroad but no news has reached him, he would have felt no grief. This shows that real cause of man’s bondage is his own mind.
