Type Of Bhaktas
As highlighted by Lord Krishna in the Bhagavata Gita chapter 7 verse 16, there are four categories of bhaktas the Arta (victim), the Jijnasu (knowledge-seeker), the Artharthi (wealth-seeker), and the Jnani (wise person)
Sanskrit Shloka
चतुर्विधा भजन्ते मां जना: सुकृतिनोऽर्जुन |
आर्तो जिज्ञासुरर्थार्थी ज्ञानी च भरतर्षभ || 16||
Hindi Meaning
हे भरतश्रेष्ठ! चार प्रकार के लोग मुझे भजते है , आर्त अर्थात् पीड़ित, ज्ञान की जिज्ञासा रखने वाले जिज्ञासु, संसार के वैभव की अभिलाषा रखने वाले अर्थार्थी और जो परमज्ञान में स्थित ज्ञानी हैं।
English Meaning
O best amongst the Bharatas, four kinds of people engage in my devotion—those who are suffering , the seekers of knowledge, the seekers of worldly pleasure, and those who are already having knowledge.
Grammar
चतुर्विधा – चतस्रः विधाः येषां ते चतुर्विधाः – बहुव्रीहिः ।
सुकृतिनः – सुष्ठ कृतम्, सुकृतम् – प्रादिसमासः ।
सुकृतम् एषाम् एषु वा अस्ति । मतुबर्थे इनिः ।
अर्थार्थी – अर्थः अस्ति इति अर्थी । मतुबर्थे इनिः ।
अर्थेन अर्थी अर्थार्थी – तृतीयातत्पुरुषः ।
भरतर्षभः – भरतानाम् ऋषभः भरतर्षभः, तत्सम्बुद्धौ – षष्ठीतत्पुरुषः ।
