Importance of Experience
As highlighted in these two verses of Keno Upanishad, knowledge or scriptures can act as enabler for one to identify that he is not the physical body, but the consciousness.
One’s understanding that he is present in all three states ( Jagrata, Dream, Sushupti ) , with or without body is an experience.
यस्यामतं तस्य मतं मतं यस्य न वेद सः।
अविज्ञातं विजानतां विज्ञातमविजानताम् ॥ – Keno Upanishad 2.3
English Meaning
He by whom Brahman is not known, he only knows the brahman and the one who knows brahman, he does not know the brahman, because he is unknown to the knowers and known to the one who does not know him. (Since Brahman is not an object of knowledge of senses and mind )
Hindi Meaning
ब्रह्म जिसको ज्ञात नहीं है उसी को ज्ञात है और जिसको ज्ञात है वह उसे नहीं जानता; क्योंकि वह जाननेवालों का बिना जाना हुआ है और न जाननेवालों का जाना हुआ है ॥
प्रतिबोधविदितं मतममृतत्वं हि विन्दते ।
आत्मना विन्दते वीर्यं विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम् ॥ – Keno Upanishad 2.4
English Meaning
One who is perceiver of every perception , because with this knowledge one attains immorality. Immorality is achieved by knowing oneself, knowledge can achieve Immorality.
Hindi Meaning
जो प्रत्येक बोध में प्रत्यगात्मरूप से जाना गया है वही ब्रह्म है—यही उसका ज्ञान है, क्योंकि उस ब्रह्मज्ञान से अमृतत्व की प्राप्ति होती है। अमृतत्व अपने ही से प्राप्त होता है, विद्या से अमृतत्व मिलता है ॥ ४ ॥
