Vivekachudamani
Vivekachudamani (विवेकचूडामणि) is a book on Advaita Vedanta tradition of Hinduism, written by Adi Shankaracharya. Vivekachudamani consists of 580 verses in Sanskrit.
Vivekachudamani is perfect book for any vedanta student, as it teaches ways to attain the knowledge, qualities of a student, Sadhana chatushtaya , how to approach a teacher for raising right questions, importance of self knowledge, qualities of bodies & pranas, Maya, Ignorance and the Atman.
Brahma Satyam Jagat Mithya
This famous teaching is attributed to Vivekachudamani, verse 20 : –
ब्रह्म सत्यं जगन्मिथ्येत्येवंरूपो विनिश्चयः ।
सोऽयं नित्यानित्यवस्तुविवेकः समुदाहृतः ॥ २0 ॥
Hindi Meaning
“ब्रह्म सत्य है और जगत् मिथ्या है” इस प्रकार नित्य वस्तु और अनित्य वस्तु के भेद का विवेचन ही विवेक कहा गया है ।
English meaning
“Brahman is the truth. The world is illuson” having this type of understanding of a temprary and permanent is called as Viveka
