Shukracharya to King Yayati, because he has slept with Sharmishtha (शर्मिष्ठा). Sharmishtha  was a salve to Shukracharya’s daughter Devyani, who was married to King Yayati

त्वां जरा विशतां मन्द विरूपकरणी नृणाम्  – BG Purana 9.18.36

 you will be attacked by old age, which makes men disfigured.

Maharishi Valmiki to the hunter

Maharishi Valmiki to the hunter , because the hunter has killed the male bird in a pair

Maharishi Valmiki uttered the following words.

मा निषाद प्रतिष्ठां त्वमगमश्शाश्वतीस्समा: ।
यत्क्रौञ्चमिथुनादेकमवधी: काममोहितम् ।। Ramayana – Balakanda 2.15

Nisad , You will never get peace, because you have killed one bird in this pair of infatuated kraunchas who has done no harm to you.

The curse of Jaya and Vijaya

Four Kumaras who are the manasputras of Brahma visited Vaikuntha, the abode of Vishnu. Jaya and Vijaya, the gate keepers of the Vaikuntha interrupt the Kumaras at the gate, thinking them to be children. They also tell the Kumaras that Sri Vishnu is resting and that they cannot see him now.

The enraged Kumaras replied Jaya and Vijaya that Vishnu is available for his devotees any time, and cursed both the keepers Jaya and Vijaya, that they would have to give up their divinity, be born as mortals on Earth , and live like normal human beings.

The curse of Indra by Rishi Durvasa

Rishi Durvasa cursed Indra to lose all his powers after Indra’s elephant Airavata threw down a garland given to Indra by Durvasa

Maharishi Bhrigu cursed Lord Vishnu to have several births on Earth, enduring the agony of birth and death repeatedly

Krishna’s curse to Ashwatthama

Ashwatthama, the son of Dronacharya, was cursed for killing the Pandavas’ sons while they slept. Shri Krishna said that he would wander the earth for 3,000 years, suffering from wounds that would never heal.

Narada curse to Vishnu

Sage Narada, once cursed Lord Vishnu after feeling humiliated. It is said that Narada fell in love with a princess and sought Vishnu’s help to woo her. Vishnu, intending to teach Narada a lesson, transformed him into an monkey.

Narada, unaware of Vishnu’s act, was devastated when the princess rejected him. In his anger, Narada cursed Vishnu that he too will have to endure separation from his loved one, owing to which he was separated from Mata Sita in his Ram avatar.

The curse of Yudhishthira 

After the battle of Kurukshetra, Yudhishthira was performing the last rites of all his lost family members. Among all the lost was also Karna who was Yudhishthira’s brother. However, Yudhishthira’s mother, for so many years, had hidden the truth from Yudhishthira that Karna was his brother

Curse of Parashurama to Karna 

Karna was raised by a low-caste charioteer and thus when he went to Drona to learn archery, he was sent back because he was not a Kshatriya. Thereafter, Karna went to Lord Parashurama to learn war skills. There, he lied to Parashurama that he is a Brahmin.

Once when Parashurama was resting on Karna lap, than an insect started biting him, but Karna did not move his thigh as Parashurama will get awake. When Parashurama saw blood coming out of his thigh due to the bite, he asked Karna that a brahmin cannot endure this much pain, you are not a brahmin. When Karna told about his caste to Parashurama, he cursed Karna for lying to him.

The curse of Pandu

Pandu, the king of one of the feuding families in the Mahabharata, was cursed so that he could not father any children.

The curse of Gandhari on Krishna

Gandhari cursed Krishna, his city, and all his subjects after hearing of the death of all the sons of Pandavas

Brighu rishi to an Asura who kidnapped his wife

This curse was given by Rishi Brighu to an Asura who kidnapped his wife, in Satyuga. 

In later Dwapar Yuga,  the same Asura was born as insect called as ‘Alarka’ (अलर्क)

This insect than bite Karna (कर्ण) on his thigh when rishi Parshurama (परशुराम) was sleeping on Karna’s lap.

मूत्रश्लेष्माशनः पाप निरयं प्रतिपत्स्यसे  –– ओ पापी , तू मूत्र और लार खानेवाला कीडा होकर नरक मे पडेगा ।

King Saudasa and the curse of Sage Vasishtha

Rishi Vasishtha when visited King Saudasa, he was served human flesh in the food by an Asura

Rishi Vasishtha without knowing that the food was actually contaminated by Asura, he got angry and cursed Saudasa to become a Rakshasa. When Vasishtha understood that the human flesh had been served by the Asura, not by the King, he changed his cursed to twelve years and after that King will get his original form.

Because of the same cruse, King Saudasa turned into an Ausra and was known as Kalmasapada (कल्माषपाद)

King Saudasa and the curse of Brahmani

When King Saudasa was turned into a Rakshasa, he saw a brahmana couple engaged in sexual intercourse in the forest. He killed the brahman-man, seeing brahmani cursed the King Saudasa

“You will also die the moment, you will do sexual intercourse” ( तवापि मृत्युराधानादकृतप्रज्ञ दर्शित: – SB 9.9.35 )

Daksha Prajapati curse to Narada Muni

Daksha Prajapati thousand sons, who were named as Haryashvas (हर्यस्व) and Savalasvas (शवलाश्व), they were asked by their father Daksha to go and produce children , but Narada Muni convinced them to become renounce the path of householders.

When Daksha came to know about this , he became angry with Narada and told to him :

तन्तुकृन्तन यन्नस्त्वमभद्रमचर: पुन: ।
तस्माल्लोकेषु ते मूढ न भवेद्भ्रमत: पदम्

You have made me lose my sons, therefore I curse you. You will wander all over this universe, and no-one will give you a permanent place to reside.

Rishi Maitreya’s curse to Duryodhana

Rishi Maitreya approached the Dhritarashtra (धृतराष्ट्र) and Duryodhana (दुर्योधन) to advice them, that their actions are wrong and they should not fight with pandavas.

But when Rishi Maitreya noticed that even after listening to his advice, Duryodhana is not replying to him and was scratching the earth.

Rishi Maitreya got angry and said to Duryodhana :

यस्मात्त्वं मामनादृत्य नेमां वाचं चिकीर्षसि ।
तस्मादस्याभिमानस्य सद्यः फलमवाप्नुहि ।।
त्वदभिद्रोहसंयुक्तं युद्धमुत्पत्स्यते महत् ।
यत्र भीमो गदापातैस्तवोरुं भेत्स्यते बली ।। – Mahabharata 3.10.33

“You have shown disrespect towards me, therefore you will soon get the fruit of your arrogance. Because of your hate towards pandavas, there will be a great war in which Bhima shall smash your thigh using his mace”

Sage Durvasa curse to king named Sahasraksha (सहस्राक्ष)

Trinavarta (तृणावर्त) was demon killed by Lord Krishna

In previous birth he was a Pandya king named Sahasraksha (सहस्राक्ष) . He was engaged in activities with his queens on bank of a river Narmada .

Sage Durvasa was going along the same route , but the king did not offered sage the salutation. Durvasa rishi got angry by his act and cursed him – “Please become a demon”. King realising the same fell on to the feet’s of rishi.

Rishi Durvasa said to him – “You will be liberated by lord Krishna”
