Source of Mahamrityunjaya Mantra :
Mahamrityunjaya Mantra (महामृत्युंजय मंत्र) is found in Rig Veda 7.59.12 and Yajur Veda 3.60. The Rishi for this mantra is Vasisth (वसिष्ठ ऋषिः) and Devta for mantra is Rudra (रुद्र)
Mahamrityunjaya Mantra – English and Hindi meaning :
ॐ हौं जूं सः | ॐ भूर्भुवः स्वः|ॐ त्र्यम्बकं यजामहे सुगन्धिं पुष्टिवर्धनम् उर्वारुकमिव बन्धनान्मृत्योर्मुक्षीय मामृतात् | स्वः भुवः भूः ॐ |सः जूं हौं ॐ।
Om, we worship the Tryambaka (the one who has three eyes), who is Fragrant and the giver of prosperity. As the ripe cucumber (ककडी फल) get detach from their creeper, similarly may we should get liberated from death, not from his Amrit (अमृत )
दिव्य गन्ध से युक्त मृत्युरहित, धन – धान्यवर्धक, त्रिनेत्र रुद्र की हम पूजा करते है | जिस प्रकार ककडी फल पक जाने पर अपने डंठल से मुक्त हो जाता है, उसी प्रकार हम भी मृत्यु से छूट जाये, किन्तु उस अमृत से हमारा बन्धन ना छूटे ।
त्र्यम्बकं – त्री अम्बकम् यस्य स: ( the one who has three eyes)
यजामहे – यज् लट्लकारः (आत्मनेपदम्) उत्तमपुरुषः बहुवचनम् (to sacrifice, to offer to a deity, to worship)
उर्वारुः , उर्वारुकम् – A kind of cucumber
