उरुक्रम​

Ururkrama (उरुक्रमः)

उरुक्रमः = उरु (great) + क्रमः (strides)

It is an adjective used for Lord Vishnu, as he during his Vamana Avatara took three steps to cover the entire earth and heaven and in his last step he place on head of King Bali.

Ururkrama (उरुक्रमः) word is mentioned in Taittiriya Upanishad 1.1.1

ॐ शं नो मित्रः शं वरुणः । शं नो भवत्वर्यमा । शं न इन्द्रो बृहस्पतिः । शं नो विष्णुरुरुक्रमः । नमो ब्रह्मणे । नमस्ते वायो 

Adi Sankara in his commentary for this sloka mentioned as “विष्णुः उरुक्रमः विस्तीर्णक्रमः पादयोरभिमानी” meaning “one who have large foot steps”

  • उरुक्रमस्याखिलबन्धमुक्तये समाधिनानुस्मर तद्विचेष्टितम्  !!
  • विवस्वानर्यमा पूषा त्वष्टाथ सविता भग: । धाता विधाता वरुणो मित्र: शत्रु उरुक्रम:  !!
