Shankaracharya

Adi Shankara had established four mutts across the country to propagate the Vedas and Vedanta Philosophy. The title of Shankaracharya is given to the heads of these mutts, so they are known as Shankaracharya.

Sri Sringeri Sharada Peetham

Located in Sringeri, Karnataka. Hasthamelakacharya was the Acharya assigned to this mutt by Adi Shankara. This mutt is custodian of the Yajura Veda

The current Shankaracharya is Sri  Bharathi Tirtha

Jyotir Matha

Located in the Chamoli, Uttarakhand. Trotokacharya was the first Acharya assigned to the mutt by Adi Shankara. This mutt is custodian of the Atharva Veda

The current Shankaracharya is Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati

Dwarka Sharada Peetham 

Located in Dwarka, Gujarat. Sureswaracharya was the first Acharya assigned to the mutt by Adi Shankara. This mutt is custodian of the Sama Veda

The current Shankaracharya is Swami Sadanand Saraswati

Govardhana Matha

Located in Puri, Odisha. Padmapada was the first Acharya assigned to the mutt by Adi Shankara. This mutt is custodian of the Rig Veda

The current Shankaracharya is Swami Nischalananda Saraswati
